Former North York Representative Played Key Role on Transit and Road Safety

Councillor Robinson Served for 14 Years

Toronto city councillor Jaye Robinson, a four-term representative for Ward 15 Don Valley West, has died at the age of 61. Robinson played a leading role in transit and road safety initiatives during her time on council.

Robinson's office issued a statement on Friday announcing her passing. "We are deeply saddened to announce that Councillor Jaye Robinson has passed away," the statement read. "Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones during this difficult time."

Robinson was first elected to council in 2010. She served as chair of the public works and infrastructure committee, and was a member of the transit commission and budget committee. Robinson was also a strong advocate for road safety, and worked to improve pedestrian and cycling infrastructure in her ward.

Robinson's death has been met with an outpouring of grief from her colleagues and constituents. Mayor John Tory called Robinson "a tireless advocate for her community" and said she would be "deeply missed." Councillor Michael Layton, who represents Ward 11 University-Rosedale, tweeted that Robinson was "a wonderful colleague and friend" and that her loss was "a great tragedy."

Robinson is survived by her husband, David, and their two children.
